What does the future of luxury air travel look like? According to Tino Schaedler and Michael J Brown it comes in the form of a lifestyle zeppelin. The concept craft which they have called the Strato Cruiser Airship is an enormous carbon fibre zeppelin with an advanced propulsion system and photovoltaic cells to make travel safer faster and cleaner.
After a very comfortable 6 hour sleep (I actually slept for a solid six hours) the cabin lights were dimmed up at 0630 am accompanied by a hot face cloth and orange juice service to gently wake the passengers from their slumber. We were now 90 minutes ahead of our arrival at Toronto. Fifteen minutes later a cold breakfast plate was served consisting of cold meats and a generous mixture of fresh fruits (including grapefruit mango orange and watermelon) complemented by bread preservatives cereals yogurts and other drinks served from the cart. I thought this was the extent of the breakfast but to my pleasant surprise a hot tomato and ham omllette plate with sausage and potatoes followed which was very nice.
The cruiser is intended to combine the experiences of a luxury cruise liner with Richard Branson`s ideas of space travel. Features include a gourmet restaurant spa terraced deck with lap pool resident DJ library bungee jumping platform climbing wall and private mini-offices as well as private suites. Its intended audience is the contemporary traveller who would love to go on a cruise but can`t take the time off work. It will transform an otherwise exhausting and ordinary journey into a positive experience.
